As the icy winds swept across the deck of our Celebrity Eclipse cruise ship, I stood there, gazing out at the vast expanse of the Southern Ocean. Antarctica was our ultimate destination, but before we could set foot on that frozen continent, there was a magical place waiting for us—the southernmost city in the world: Ushuaia.

Booking the Adventure

The moment I secured my flight and cruise tickets, my mind raced to Ushuaia. The ship’s itinerary revealed that we would dock at the port on 7th Feb 2024, from 10 am to 8 pm. Day excursions were on offer, but their price tags—around $250 per person—seemed exorbitant. I had a better plan: book the End of the World Train tickets (29K Turista Class) directly through the official website, please note you also need to by Park ticket (12K PESO)separately which is not included in Train fare.

The above rates are for international Passengers price, for Argentinian national and local residents ticket price are slightly less, also if you book ticket online..

You will got a QR code with train No. date an Time on your mail ID, However you need to collect paper tickets from ticket counter before Board the train.

And so, armed with anticipation, I navigated the website, my cursor dancing over the “Book Now” button. The ticket prices were surprisingly reasonable—pesos to dollars. The only catch? The train station lay several kilometers away from the port. But fear not, for Argentina’s taxis are a traveler’s best friend—affordable and reliable.(Approximately 5000 Peso or 5 USD)

The End of the World Train offers three classes of tickets:

Tourist Class: This is the standard class. The cost of a ticket for the tourist class was 29000 Argentine pesos as of 2024.
Premium Class: This class offers a more comfortable experience. The cost of a ticket for the Premium Class was 70000 Argentine pesos as of 2024, this includes meal and Coffee/Tea and Bottle of Argentinian Wine.
VIP Class: This is the most luxurious class, offering the best services and comfort and mostly a charter train.

Our ship, the Celebrity Ecilpse, embarked at 9:10 am. Captain’s voice crackled over the intercom, announcing passenger clearance at 9:40 am. We were among the first to disembark. The crisp morning air greeted us as we stepped onto the Ushuaia docks.

Precisely at 1:30 pm, we lined up for embarkation. The station attendants checked our tickets, their smiles warm and welcoming. For a reasonable fee of 7000 pesos(Approx. 7USD), we purchased commemorative coins featuring our fellow passengers. A snapshot with the prospector added to the keepsake.

The train whistle pierced the air at 1:45 pm, and we boarded the vintage carriages. The wheels clacked against the rails, and we were off. Our first stop, just 15 minutes into the journey, offered a chance to stretch our legs. Snacks awaited, and a waterfall cascaded nearby. The souvenir frame, capturing our smiles at the main station, found its place in my backpack.

Through Forests and Hills

The train ride is a 50-minute journey and it travels the last 7 kilometers of the original prisoner’s train route.

The train runs from the End of the World train station to the Tierra del Fuego National Park train station.
The departure point is located 8 kilometers west of Ushuaia, so you need to make your way to the train station by shuttle bus or taxi.
Tickets can get booked up several weeks in advance, especially during high season. It’s best to secure these tickets well in advance.
The entrance to the national park is not included in the train ticket price and must be paid in cash on the day of the ride.
