In 2022, our family set out on what was, at that time, the biggest vacation we had ever planned — a 25-day back-to-back Caribbean cruise.
It was not just a holiday.
It was an experiment.
Could a long journey across multiple countries, islands and oceans actually feel relaxing?
The answer surprised us.
Every morning brought a new horizon.
One day we were surrounded by turquoise Caribbean waters.
Another day we were exploring a completely different island.
Every evening ended with another unforgettable sunset from the deck of the ship.
And somewhere between those islands, we discovered something unexpected.
We had fallen in love with cruising.
Not because of luxury.
Not because of endless food choices.
But because cruising offered something priceless:
The freedom to wake up somewhere new every morning without the stress of packing and unpacking.
🌊 The Traveller’s Journey Continues
Travel has always been more than a vacation for us.
Over the years, journeys have taken us across:
🌍 More than 60 countries
🌎 Six continents, including Antarctica
✈️ Hundreds of flights and more than 450 recorded flight sectors
🚢 Multiple cruises across oceans and continents
From Mediterranean waters to Alaska’s glaciers.
From Northern fjords to Caribbean islands.
From famous landmarks to remote corners of the world.
But experienced travellers learn something important:
The best journeys are not always the smoothest ones.
Sometimes the unexpected delays become the best stories.
Like the Antarctica journey where multiple flight changes, more than 60 hours of flying and the fear of missing the cruise tested our patience.
Or those moments when travel plans suddenly changed and we had to find solutions thousands of kilometres away from home.
Because eventually, every traveller understands:
A perfect journey is not one where nothing goes wrong.
It is one where every challenge becomes part of the adventure.
🌎 The Search Begins
After returning from the Caribbean, one question kept coming from friends and family:
“So… where next?”
Honestly?
We did not have an immediate answer.
Life became busy again.
Work took priority.
Days turned into months.
But somewhere in the background, another journey was waiting.
When the time came to plan our next family adventure, we explored many possibilities.
🇯🇵 Japan — where tradition meets technology.
🇦🇺 Australia — with legendary road trips and landscapes.
🇳🇿 New Zealand — a paradise for nature lovers.
🇺🇸 Alaska — a world of glaciers and wilderness.
Even another Caribbean cruise was considered.
Every destination had something special.
But none created that feeling:
“Yes. This is the journey.”
We were not searching for another holiday.
We were searching for an experience.
❤️ Why Europe Again?
Some people asked:
“You have already visited Europe multiple times. Why return?”
That is exactly why.
The first visit to a destination is about discovering.
The next visit is about experiencing.
Europe has a unique ability to reveal something new every time.
A familiar city can show a different personality.
A famous street can lead to a hidden café.
A place you once visited quickly can become a completely different memory when explored slowly.
Europe is not just a collection of countries.
It is a continent where history, culture, food and landscapes change within a few hours of travel.
Imagine:
Breakfast in Italy…
A Mediterranean sunset in Spain…
Walking through historic European streets…
Standing at Gibraltar…
And experiencing the unique culture of Morocco…
All within one incredible journey.
That idea fascinated us.
🚢 The Discovery That Changed Everything
But there was one challenge.
Europe can become expensive.
Multiple hotels.
Different transport bookings.
Constant packing.
Long transfers.
Then came the idea that changed the entire plan.
What if the cruise was not just part of the holiday?
What if the cruise became:
Our hotel.
Our restaurant.
Our transportation.
Our entertainment.
That changed everything.
After experiencing cruises around the Mediterranean, Alaska, Caribbean, Asia and other regions, we knew the value of travelling by sea.
Then another possibility appeared:
What if we combined two Mediterranean cruises with land exploration?
Suddenly, the impossible started becoming possible.
A journey covering multiple countries.
A balance between adventure and comfort.
A European experience designed around memories, not just destinations.

After countless evenings comparing routes, cruise schedules, flights, trains and hotels…
The plan slowly emerged:

🚢 Board the first Costa Mediterranean cruise from Savona
🇪🇸 Sail towards Spain
🇬🇮 Experience Gibraltar
🇲🇦 Explore Morocco
🚗 Continue through Spain
🚢 Begin the second cruise from Barcelona
🇪🇸 Complete the journey in Madrid
✈️ Return home with memories for a lifetime
Simple?
At least…
On the map.
🤔 But The Real Planning Had Just Started…
Every decision created another question.
Should we add Portugal?
Should we spend more time in Rome?
Should we include Venice again?
Should we take one cruise or two?
Could we fit everything without turning the holiday into a race?
Because after decades of travelling, one lesson is clear:
The purpose of travel is not to collect places.
It is to collect moments.
✈️ What Happens Next?
Before booking a single flight…
Before confirming a single cruise cabin…
The real battle began.
Maps opened.
Spreadsheets were created.
Routes were compared.
Prices were analysed.
And one decision almost changed the entire journey.
We almost selected the wrong cruise.
